This year the national handbag day is on Oct 10, 2016 ( which is the same day as Canadian Thanksgiving !!!)
I have to be thankful of all the beautiful handbags out there but also the friends and family that let me indulge in my little obsession.
My handbag and love of Louis Vuitton bags is something very personal. In fact, most of time I hide it away at work and rarely tell people when I have a new purchase. The first time I laid my eyes on a monogram handbag at 15, I had no idea what it was. When I asked my mother for it, her advise was earn it yourself. At 16, I tutored English in Hong Kong for the summer and saved up for my first handbag. My mother, took me to the store and I spent an hour choosing my perfect bag. It signified an achievement, a goal, coming of age and many more. Since then my handbags have been more than just an accessory or fashion statement. Each piece has a reason or meaning to it ( or at least I became very good it making up a good excuse for it) I studied hard at school and ensured I had a good career path so I had autonomy with my money. Whether it is for shopping, saving or for charity – it is my decision. That is what drove me.
My life does not surround fashion and my bags – there is a lot more to life. If your happiness hinges on material goods, then you really need to get a life. Throughout the years I have “cheated” and wandered to Chanel, Burberry, Prada……; however, my loyalty is with Louis Vuitton. LV is my comfort zone. When I got married, I made sure we visited the LV store in Paris; after our miscarriage I went in the store and bought myself something to cheer myself up; when I closed my first deal – I got a new bag to celebrate and when our beloved dog passed away and I was heart broken – guess where I escaped to?
The brand has evolved into something less timeless and some pieces are so mass produced that it has lost its appeal………however, after over 30 years of a love affair with my favourite brand….I don’t think it is going anywhere anytime soon.
Now for National Handbag day – what bag or bags are you celebrating? What is in your bag?
Here are just a few things….
